How to Improve the Capabilities of Health Information Systems to Address Emerging Healthcare Challenges

Join MEASURE Evaluation on April 28, 2020 at 8am EDT for a one-hour webinar on improving health information system (HIS) capabilities for emerging healthcare challenges.

Date: 28 April 2020

Time: 8 – 9 AM EDT

The webinar will be led by Manish Kumar and Liz Millar, both with MEASURE Evaluation, and Jamiru Mpiima, former consultant to Uganda’s Ministry of Health. The presenters will also be joined by tool collaborators Xen Santas and James Kariuki with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as Emma Kassy, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill consultant, and Alex Tumwesigye, John Snow Inc. (JSI).

The emergence of new healthcare challenges require strong Health Information Systems. They are a vital source of information about where resources are most needed. The HIS Stages of Continuous Improvement (SOCI) Toolkit was collaboratively designed to help countries or organizations holistically assess, plan, and prioritize interventions and investments to strengthen a HIS.

The assessment measures current and desired HIS status across five core domains of an HIS and 39 sub-components, and maps a path toward improvement—thus helping countries ensure that timely and reliable information is available to the people who need it. HIS are essential not only to monitor and provide the data needed for decision making for national and sub-national programs, but also to demonstrate progress across countries, regions, and globally. This tool aligns with World Health Organization efforts to strengthen country HIS and capacities to monitor universal health coverage and Sustainable Development Goals for health.

This webinar will detail and demonstrate use of the new digital version of the HIS SOCI assessment tool. It was created in March 2020 to provide a more agile option than the Excel-based version for completing a SOCI assessment
